HR Strategy and Operations Intern
High-impact HR internship at MacLean-Fogg’s Farmington Hills facility. Drive real process improvement, support strategic initiatives, and modernize HR. Fall or Co-Op potential for top performers.
This is not a typical summer internship.
MacLean-Fogg is seeking a high-potential HR Summer Intern to join our Farmington Hills manufacturing facility. This role is designed for an ambitious, business-minded student who wants real exposure to how Human Resources drives performance in a manufacturing environment.
You will work directly with HR and site leadership on meaningful initiatives that impact hiring, employee development, engagement, and process improvement. You will not observe from the sidelines. You will analyze, build, improve, and deliver.
This internship is ideal for a rising junior or senior who wants to modernize HR, leverage technology more effectively, and contribute to strategic people initiatives in an industrial setting.
High performers may have the opportunity to extend into the fall semester or transition into a Co-Op.
Key Responsibilities
You will contribute to high-impact work such as:
Supporting full-cycle recruiting efforts for hourly and professional roles
Enhancing the candidate and new hire experience
Assisting with onboarding and early employee engagement initiatives
Partnering on HR data analysis and reporting to support better decision-making
Evaluating and improving HR processes for efficiency and scalability
Supporting talent development initiatives and training coordination
Leveraging technology and AI tools to improve administrative workflows
Assisting with employee communications and site-level engagement activities
Contributing to special projects tied to continuous improvement within the facility
This role blends operations, analytics, technology, and people strategy.
Skills/Competencies
We are looking for someone who operates above the typical internship level:
Strong intellectual curiosity and business acumen
High initiative with the ability to work independently
Analytical thinking and comfort working with data
Professional maturity and sound judgment
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Comfort navigating technology platforms and learning new systems quickly
Interest in process improvement and operational efficiency
Ability to build credibility with manufacturing leaders and frontline employees
You should be comfortable moving between the shop floor and the office, understanding that HR in manufacturing is both strategic and hands-on.
Qualifications (Required)
Rising Junior or Senior pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, or related field
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
Availability to work on-site at our Farmington Hills manufacturing facility during the summer
Strong academic performance and demonstrated leadership involvement
Qualifications (Preferred)
Prior internship or leadership experience in a professional setting
Interest in manufacturing, industrial operations, or operational leadership
Exposure to HR systems, data analytics, or process improvement tools
Demonstrated experience using AI tools or automation to increase efficiency
Interest in pursuing a long-term career in Human Resources or operations
At MacLean-Fogg, you will gain exposure to a 100-year manufacturing organization that partners with leading automotive and industrial customers across the globe. This internship offers more than experience. It offers responsibility, visibility, and the chance to make a measurable impact.
