Role Summary
The Quality Inspector is responsible for performing routine inspections, checks, and tests on materials, components, and finished products at various stages of the production process. This role ensures that all products meet established quality and reliability standards by using inspection tools, reviewing work instructions, and documenting findings. The Quality Inspector is integral to maintaining product quality, identifying defects, and ensuring that production processes are compliant with company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Perform visual and dimensional inspections of finished and in-process goods to ensure that products meet specified
Conduct first piece inspections to verify that newly produced items meet quality control requirements before mass production begins. Ensure that initial production items conform to all quality criteria.
Properly utilize and maintain required measuring and gaging instruments (e.g., calipers, micrometers, gauges) to assess product quality and ensure accurate measurements.
Record inspection results and maintain accurate statistical data. Input data into tracking systems or logs to ensure that inspection records are up to date and complete.
Identify non-conformities or quality issues and escalate concerns to higher-level quality staff or supervisors when necessary. Provide detailed reports of issues and discrepancies.
Complete all quality-related documentation fully and accurately, including inspection records, non-conformance reports, and other required forms.
Maintain cleanliness and organization of the inspection area in accordance with 5S principles to promote an efficient and safe working environment.
Follow all safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures. Ensure that safety protocols are always adhered to and that the inspection process does not compromise worker safety.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Skills/Competencies
Ability to interpret and follow detailed work instructions and quality standards to ensure product compliance.
Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects, deviations from standards, and non-conformities in products or processes.
Basic verbal and written communication skills to document inspection results, provide feedback, and report quality issues.
Basic math skills for measuring and calculating dimensions, tolerances, and statistical data.
Basic knowledge of quality control tools and techniques, including the use of gaging instruments (e.g., micrometers, calipers, and height gauges).
Basic computer skills for entering data into tracking systems and preparing inspection reports.
Ability to work well in a team environment, collaborating with other inspectors, production staff, and supervisors to meet quality goals.
Ability to identify problems, communicate issues clearly, and contribute to solutions that improve product quality.
