Role Summary
The Tool and Die Trainee supports the fabrication, modification, and repair of tooling components. This developmental role builds foundational skills in blueprint reading, precision measurement, machining practices, and die assembly while working under supervision.

Shift: 2nd shift, Monday to Friday
Pay Range: $18-$20/hr
Key Responsibilities
Assist Tool and Die Makers in the fabrication, modification, and repair of dies and tooling components
Read and interpret blueprints, part prints, engineered drawings, and specifications with supervisor or lead to understand dimensional requirements and tolerances
Support development of machining plans, including material selection, tooling requirements, and sequencing of operations
Prepare materials for machining by measuring, marking, and laying out work pieces using precision measuring instruments
Set up and operate manual machining equipment under guidance, including mills, lathes, surface grinders, drill presses, band saws, ID and OD grinders
Assist with calculating machining factors such as speed, feed, and depth of cut under supervision
Observe machine operation to identify irregularities or out-of-tolerance conditions and report findings
Inspect finished components using micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and other measuring equipment to verify conformance
Assist in assembling die components and performing bench work, including fitting, polishing, and minor adjustments
Maintain steel inventory awareness and understand material selection for tooling applications
Maintain tool room equipment and work areas consistent with 5S and Lean standards
Follow all safety, environmental, and quality procedures and report hazards immediately
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications Required
Technical training in machining or manufacturing preferred
Basic mechanical aptitude and interest in precision machining
Ability to read basic prints and use measuring tools with guidance
Competencies/Skills
Foundational understanding of machining principles
Willingness to learn tool and die practices
Basic knowledge of hand tools and shop equipment
Attention to detail and commitment to quality
Ability to follow detailed instructions
Strong safety awareness
Physical Requirements
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach frequently
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and tooling weighing up to 50 pounds, with or without reasonable accommodation
Ability to perform repetitive hand, wrist, and arm movements
Ability to work around industrial machining equipment and moving mechanical parts
Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and safety footwear.
