Job Summary
MacLean-Fogg is hiring a Business Intelligence Specialist to design, develop, and maintain reporting that supports financial, operational, and supply chain decision-making. You’ll build and improve Power BI, ReportsNow, SQL, and ERP reporting while partnering with business users to define requirements and support the transition to a centralized data warehouse. This role offers a flexible work arrangement, with preference for candidates near Mundelein, IL or Detroit, MI and remote work considered for the right candidate.

What You'll Do as a Business Intelligence Specialist
Design, develop, test, and deploy Power BI reports and dashboards, including data modeling, DAX measure development, visualization design, and publishing to shared workspaces.
Develop and maintain reports in the company’s JD Edwards reporting toolset, ReportsNow, including scheduled distributions and drill-down reporting for operational users.
Write, test, and tune SQL queries against JD Edwards tables and SQL Server databases to source, shape, and validate report data; resolve data discrepancies and improve query and report performance.
Partner with functional end users, business analysts, and finance, operations, and supply chain teams to gather reporting requirements, translate business needs into documented technical specifications, review draft reports, incorporate feedback, and confirm acceptance.
Apply consistent standards for report design, naming conventions, and data definitions across business units and manufacturing locations, while identifying duplicate or overlapping requests and recommending consolidation when appropriate.
Support the migration and rebuild of existing Power BI reports as the organization transitions from a third-party data model to a centralized data warehouse, including report portfolio rationalization and defining reporting requirements for data engineering.
Develop and maintain semantic models and shared datasets that support self-service reporting, and document report logic, data sources, business definitions, and change history.
Maintain and troubleshoot the existing report portfolio, including performance tuning and updates as business processes, master data, and source systems change.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business Analytics, Computer Science, Finance, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
Two to four years of experience developing production reports and dashboards in a business environment.
Demonstrated hands-on experience with Power BI, including data modeling, DAX, Power Query, report design, and publishing to a shared workspace.
Demonstrated proficiency writing SQL, including multi-table joins, aggregation, and query performance troubleshooting.
Experience developing reports against a transactional business system and a working understanding of how operational data is structured.
Ability to elicit reporting requirements from non-technical users and translate them into technical specifications.
Ability to communicate data concepts and report results clearly to business and operational audiences.
Strong attention to detail and demonstrated experience independently validating work products before release.
Ability to manage multiple concurrent requests, establish priorities, and communicate realistic delivery timelines.
Ability to learn new reporting platforms and ERP data structures, including JD Edwards and ReportsNow, through on-the-job training.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision and collaboratively within a cross-functional team.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including advanced Excel functionality.
Ability to handle confidential financial and personnel data with discretion.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work is primarily performed in an office environment and involves remaining in a stationary position for extended periods while operating a computer.
The role requires the use of standard office equipment and communication by telephone, video conference, and electronic mail.
Occasional visits to manufacturing facilities may be required, where personal protective equipment and adherence to plant safety procedures are required.
