Role Summary
Setup Technician III is responsible for the installation, calibration, and advanced troubleshooting of complex machinery, ensuring peak performance and alignment with production goals. This role leads the setup process for new or upgraded equipment, mentors' junior technicians, and drives continuous improvement initiatives. With a high level of technical expertise, the Technician resolves challenging issues, collaborates with cross-functional teams, and ensures efficient plant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the installation, setup, and calibration of plastic processing machines and equipment, ensuring precise alignment with operational specifications for production.
Perform visual quality checks and monitor press cycle times; make changes as needed to improve or enhance product quality and efficiencies following proper change notifications.
Collaborate closely with engineering and production teams to optimize machine performance for specialized production runs and implement necessary adjustments.
Perform advanced troubleshooting and diagnostics on critical equipment issues, resolve complex malfunctions, and adjust settings to ensure maximum efficiency.
Conduct in-depth tests and inspections to identify and resolve potential issues before they impact production, ensuring minimal disruption.
Implement corrective actions and lead preventive maintenance efforts to improve equipment reliability, reduce downtime, and extend machinery lifespan.
Analyze and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, and shop orders to determine machine setup, production methods, and sequencing, ensuring optimal production workflows.
Collaborate with engineering and cross-functional teams to drive continuous improvement in machine setups and operational efficiency.
Oversee the operation and maintenance of powered industrial equipment (e.g., forklifts, pallet jacks) to support machine setup, material transport, and seamless production processes.
Ensure safe operation of equipment and adherence to safety guidelines.
Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
Education: High School
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a plastic injection molding facility, with a focus on equipment setup and basic maintenance.
Certifications/Licenses: N/A
Basic understanding of powered industrial equipment is preferred.
Preferred:
Education: 2-year technical degree or equivalent.
Experience: N/A
Certifications/Licenses: Technical certifications or coursework in industrial technology, mechanical systems, or related fields is a plus. Powered industrial equipment certification.
Competencies/Skills
Intermediate verbal and written communication skills.
Strong understanding of mechanical systems and ability to perform simple troubleshooting and adjustments.
Ability to follow detailed instructions and ensure machines are set up correctly.
Ability to perform hands-on work involving manual dexterity, including the operation of tools and equipment.
Strong focus on safety practices and adherence to all safety protocols to ensure a safe working environment.
Ability to work effectively within a team environment, following instructions and collaborating with other technicians.
